Meet the volunteer driver who, over the years, has delivered enough food for one million meals! “We can buy the food, volunteers can pack the food, but without drivers like Dan, that food would never make it to the plates of the school children, who eagerly await deliveries,” says Chip Swab, Driver Coordinator.
Many school children have a difficult time staying alert in class because they are hungry, but also due to dehydration. Our Student Hydration Program provides clean water for children in the classrooms and for food preparation in the school kitchens. Each month, purified water in large refillable jugs is delivered for nearly 2,500 children in 19 communities.
The Extended Alimentation Program aims to eradicate malnutrition within entire families by providing bags of food to households that present extreme cases of impoverishment and malnutrition. Currently, there are 45 families in 5 communities benefiting from the program, which also includes home visits where we can observe living conditions.
Feed the Hungry San Miguel recently hosted guests of our popular “March Magic” tour, held March 28 through April 3. Attendees got to experience the wonders of San Miguel de Allende and surrounding areas, as well as the kind of transformative work we are able to do thanks to the funds raised by the event.
I am honored to introduce myself as the new president of Feed the Hungry San Miguel. I started working with Feed the Hungry more than three years ago, first packing food, then driving food deliveries to schools every week, then as a board member. I am humbled to have the confidence of the board and promise to do all I can to continue the success of Feed the Hungry.
