Planned giving is a simple, convenient way to support Feed the Hungry San Miguel’s mission. There are also income tax advantages. You can name Feed the Hungry as a beneficiary of all or a percentage of your accounts and make changes at any time.
Feed the Hungry not only serves thousands of school meals every school day, additional programs directly targeting malnutrition provide support for hungry residents across the age spectrum.
Cooking classes specifically for children help them learn about nutrition and healthy meal preparation. The classes not only instill healthy habits at a young age, they also make for a family bonding experience.
When school resumes at the end of August, we look forward to seeing the smiles of the children as they reach for their meal trays each day. For many, this is the best meal they will have that day.
Feed the Hungry San Miguel’s newest school kitchen opened in this rural community, where 34 percent of the elementary school students were diagnosed with some level of malnutrition. The children receive breakfast as well as lunch in the new kitchen—a total of 530 meals are served every day.
We’ve had a very successful year so far, opening two new large school kitchens serving more than 500 meals a day, bringing our total to over 5,000 meals served every school day.
Meet the volunteer driver who, over the years, has delivered enough food for one million meals! “We can buy the food, volunteers can pack the food, but without drivers like Dan, that food would never make it to the plates of the school children, who eagerly await deliveries,” says Chip Swab, Driver Coordinator.
We are proud to provide examples of how Feed the Hungry San Miguel has embraced Environmental, social inclusion, and governance (ESG) principles and sustainability-oriented guidelines.
Many school children have a difficult time staying alert in class because they are hungry, but also due to dehydration. Our Student Hydration Program provides clean water for children in the classrooms and for food preparation in the school kitchens. Each month, purified water in large refillable jugs is delivered for nearly 2,500 children in 19 communities.
